Fiji’s President, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, has arrived in New York for the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. Prior to the assembly, he was honored with a traditional welcoming ceremony by the Fijian Diaspora in New York.
In his speech, President Katonivere expressed deep gratitude to the Fijian community for their warm welcome to the delegation. He acknowledged their continuous support for their families in Fiji, emphasizing the vital impact of their financial assistance on the nation’s economic development.
The President also extended his thanks to Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Filipo Tarakinikini, for his effective leadership and efforts in promoting Fiji’s interests globally. He remarked that the attendance of the diaspora at the welcoming ceremony symbolizes the unity and connection of Fijian families living overseas.
“Even when away from home, they carry Fiji in their hearts, strengthening the bond between expatriate Fijians and their homeland,” he stated.
Among those present were Assistant Minister for Finance Esrom Immanuel and Fiji’s Ambassador to the United States, Ratu Ilisoni Vudireketi. President Katonivere’s involvement in UNGA 79 demonstrates Fiji’s commitment to international cooperation, sustainable development, and the pursuit of peace and prosperity for all.
