Fiji’s President, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, is currently in New York for the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. Prior to the UNGA, he received a traditional welcoming ceremony hosted by the Fijian community in New York.

In his address, President Katonivere expressed sincere appreciation for the warm welcome he and his delegation received from the Fijian diaspora. The President also acknowledged Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Filipo Tarakinikini, commending his strong leadership in promoting Fiji’s interests on the global stage. He remarked that the attendance of the diaspora at the welcoming ceremony represents the unity and togetherness of Fijian families living overseas.

“Though separated by distance, they keep Fiji close to their hearts, strengthening the connection between overseas Fijians and their homeland,” noted President Katonivere.

The event saw the presence of Assistant Minister for Finance Esrom Immanuel and Fiji’s Ambassador to the United States, Ratu Ilisoni Vudireketi. President Katonivere’s participation in the UNGA underscores Fiji’s commitment to global cooperation, sustainable development, and efforts aimed at ensuring peace, prosperity, and progress for all.
