Fiji’s President, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, is currently in New York for the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. He received a warm traditional welcome from the Fijian community in New York ahead of the event scheduled for later this week.
During his speech, President Katonivere expressed sincere appreciation for the warm reception given to the Fijian delegation. He acknowledged the critical support that the diaspora provides to their families in Fiji, emphasizing the importance of their financial contributions to the nation’s economic development.
The President also recognized Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Filipo Tarakinikini, for his effective leadership and efforts in promoting Fiji’s interests on the global stage. He remarked that the attendance of the diaspora at the welcoming ceremony reflects the unity and togetherness of Fijian families living abroad.
“Despite being far from home, they continue to carry Fiji in their hearts, reinforcing the bond between overseas Fijians and their homeland,” he stated.
Among those present were Assistant Minister for Finance Esrom Immanuel and Fiji’s Ambassador to the United States, Ratu Ilisoni Vudireketi. President Katonivere’s involvement in UNGA 79 underscores Fiji’s commitment to global partnership, sustainable development, and the promotion of peace, prosperity, and progress for all.
