Fiji’s Powerlifting Titans Set to Conquer Oceania Championships

The Fiji Powerlifting Federation has announced a robust 10-member team to compete in the Oceania Regional Powerlifting Championships 2014, set to take place in Nauru from October 30 to November 2. This announcement was made yesterday by the federation’s general president, Viliame Lagonilakeba.

The team comprises six competitors and four officials. Lagonilakeba acknowledged the challenges ahead, stating, “Competing in Nauru will be no easy feat. Powerlifting is deeply rooted in their culture, and many world champions have emerged from Nauru, establishing a reputation as one of the toughest powerlifting nations globally.”

He expressed confidence in the athletes’ preparation, emphasizing that they are eager to showcase their strength and skills against the region’s best competitors.

The Fiji squad includes the following athletes: Vivaan Patel in the Men’s sub-junior U83kg category; Vinesh Chand in the Men’s Open U74kg; Faga Varea in the Men’s Open U93kg; Muzammil Ali in the Men’s Open U120kg; and Kurt Wise serving as captain in the Men’s Open U120kg.

The officials for the team are Eric Jioje as head coach (non-travelling), Ryan Bale (non-travelling), Salacieli Koroi as assistant coach (travelling), and Jessa May Banchod as team manager/doctor (travelling).
