Fiji’s Powerlifting Team Set for Epic Challenge in Nauru

The Fiji Powerlifting Federation has announced a robust 10-member team to compete in the Oceania Regional Powerlifting Championships 2014, scheduled to take place in Nauru from October 30 to November 2. This announcement was made by Federation President Viliame Lagonilakeba yesterday.

The delegation comprises six athletes and four officials. Lagonilakeba emphasized the challenges that await the team, noting that powerlifting is a well-established sport in Nauru, a country known for producing numerous world champions. This reputation positions Nauru as one of the toughest powerlifting nations globally.

Despite the tough competition, Lagonilakeba expressed confidence in the athletes, who are well-prepared and eager to test their strength and skills against the best competitors in the region.

The athletes representing Fiji include:
– Vivaan Patel: Men’s sub-junior U83kg
– Vinesh Chand: Men’s Open U74kg
– Faga Varea: Men’s Open U93kg
– Muzammil Ali: Men’s Open U120kg
– Kurt Wise: Men’s Open U120kg (captain)

The team’s officials are:
– Eric Jioje: Head coach (Non-travelling)
– Ryan Bale (Non-travelling)
– Salacieli Koroi: Assistant coach (Travelling)
– Jessa May Banchod: Team manager/doctor (Travelling)
