Fiji’s Powerlifting Team Readies for Tough Oceania Championships Challenge

The Fiji Powerlifting Federation has announced a formidable 10-member team for the upcoming Oceania Regional Powerlifting Championships 2014, set to take place in Nauru from October 30 to November 2. This was confirmed by Federation President Viliame Lagonilakeba.

The team comprises six athletes and four officials. Lagonilakeba acknowledged the challenge of competing in Nauru, emphasizing the sport’s deep roots in the local culture, which has produced numerous world champions, establishing Nauru as a formidable contender in powerlifting.

Despite the tough competition, he expressed confidence in the athletes, stating they are well-prepared and eager to showcase their strength and skills against top competitors from the region.

The athletes representing Fiji include:
– Vivaan Patel – Men’s sub-junior U83kg
– Vinesh Chand – Men’s Open U74kg
– Faga Varea – Men’s Open U93kg
– Muzammil Ali – Men’s Open U120kg
– Kurt Wise – Men’s Open U120kg (captain)

The officials include:
– Eric Jioje – Head coach (Non-travelling)
– Ryan Bale (Non-travelling)
– Salacieli Koroi – Assistant coach (Travelling)
– Jessa May Banchod – Team manager/doctor (Travelling)
