Fiji’s Powerlifting Team Readies for Fierce Challenge in Nauru

The Fiji Powerlifting Federation has announced a robust 10-member team for the Oceania Regional Powerlifting Championships 2014, which will take place in Nauru from October 30 to November 2. This confirmation was made by Federation general president Viliame Lagonilakeba yesterday.

The team comprises six athletes and four officials. Lagonilakeba acknowledged the challenges of competing in Nauru, emphasizing that powerlifting is a significant part of their culture, with numerous world champions having emerged from the island nation, making it one of the toughest powerlifting countries globally.

He expressed that the Fiji athletes are confident and well-prepared for the upcoming competition, eager to prove their strength and skills against some of the best in the region.

The Fijian squad includes the following athletes: Vivaan Patel in the Men’s sub-junior U83kg category, Vinesh Chand in the Men’s Open U74kg, Faga Varea in the Men’s Open U93kg, Muzammil Ali in the Men’s Open U120kg, and Kurt Wise as the captain in the Men’s Open U120kg category.

The officials accompanying the team include Eric Jioje as Head Coach (Non-traveling), Ryan Bale (Non-traveling), Salacieli Koroi as Assistant Coach (Traveling), and Jessa May Banchod as Team Manager/Doctor (Traveling).
