The Fiji Powerlifting Federation has announced a strong team of ten members for the Oceania Regional Powerlifting Championships, which will take place in Nauru from October 30 to November 2. Federation President Viliame Lagonilakeba confirmed the team lineup yesterday, which includes six athletes and four officials.

Lagonilakeba noted that competing in Nauru will present significant challenges, as powerlifting is deeply rooted in their culture and has produced numerous world champions, making Nauru one of the toughest countries in the sport. He expressed confidence in the Fijian athletes, stating they are well-prepared for the competition and eager to showcase their strength and skills against top contenders from the region.

The Fijian athletes selected are Vivaan Patel in the Men’s sub-junior U83kg category, Vinesh Chand in the Men’s Open U74kg, Faga Varea in the Men’s Open U93kg, Muzammil Ali in the Men’s Open U120kg, and team captain Kurt Wise also in the Men’s Open U120kg.

The officials include Head Coach Eric Jioje and Ryan Bale, both of whom will not be traveling, Assistant Coach Salacieli Koroi who will travel, and Team Manager/Doctor Jessa May Banchod, who will also be part of the traveling group.
