The Fiji Powerlifting Federation has announced a robust 10-member team set to compete in the Oceania Regional Powerlifting Championships 2014, taking place in Nauru from October 30 to November 2. This information was shared by Federation general president Viliame Lagonilakeba.
The team comprises six athletes and four officials. Lagonilakeba acknowledged the challenge awaiting the competitors in Nauru, pointing out the country’s strong powerlifting culture and its history of producing world champions, making it one of the toughest nations in the sport.
Despite the challenges, Lagonilakeba expressed confidence in the preparedness of the athletes, who are eager to showcase their strength and skills against the best competitors in the region.
The Fiji team includes athletes Vivaan Patel in the Men’s sub-junior U83kg, Vinesh Chand in the Men’s Open U74kg, Faga Varea in the Men’s Open U93kg, Muzammil Ali in the Men’s Open U120kg, and Kurt Wise, the captain, also in the Men’s Open U120kg.
The officials traveling with the team include head coach Salacieli Koroi, team manager and doctor Jessa May Banchod, alongside non-traveling coaches Eric Jioje and Ryan Bale.
