Fiji’s Powerlifting Team Gears Up for Tough Oceania Challenge

The Fiji Powerlifting Federation has announced a strong 10-member team that will compete in the Oceania Regional Powerlifting Championships 2014, taking place in Nauru from October 30 to November 2. This information was confirmed by the Federation’s general president, Viliame Lagonilakeba.

The team comprises six athletes and four officials. Lagonilakeba highlighted that competing in Nauru will be challenging, given the country’s rich powerlifting culture and history of producing world champions, making it one of the toughest nations in the sport.

He expressed confidence in the preparedness of the athletes, who are eager to showcase their strength and skills against top competitors from the region.

The Fiji squad includes the following athletes: Vivaan Patel in the Men’s sub-junior U83kg category, Vinesh Chand in the Men’s Open U74kg, Faga Varea in the Men’s Open U93kg, Muzammil Ali in the Men’s Open U120kg, and Kurt Wise, who will serve as the captain in the Men’s Open U120kg.

The officials for the trip are Eric Jioje as the head coach (non-traveling), Ryan Bale (non-traveling), Salacieli Koroi as the assistant coach (traveling), and Jessa May Banchod serving as the team manager and doctor (traveling).
