Fiji’s Powerlifting Team Gears Up for Tough Challenge in Nauru

The Fiji Powerlifting Federation has announced a robust 10-member team set to participate in the Oceania Regional Powerlifting Championships 2014, taking place in Nauru from October 30 to November 2. Federation President Viliame Lagonilakeba confirmed the announcement, revealing that the team consists of six athletes and four officials.

Lagonilakeba acknowledged the challenges ahead, stating that competing in Nauru will be tough. He noted the cultural significance of powerlifting in Nauru, which has produced many world champions, solidifying its status as one of the strongest powerlifting nations globally. Despite the competition, he expressed confidence in the readiness of the athletes who are eager to showcase their strength and skills against top competitors from the region.

The Fiji athlete lineup includes Vivaan Patel in the Men’s sub-junior U83kg category, Vinesh Chand in the Men’s Open U74kg, Faga Varea in the Men’s Open U93kg, Muzammil Ali in the Men’s Open U120kg, and Kurt Wise, who serves as captain in the Men’s Open U120kg.

The team officials are comprised of Eric Jioje as the Head Coach (Non-traveling), Ryan Bale (Non-traveling), Salacieli Koroi as Assistant Coach (Traveling), and Jessa May Banchod, who will act as the Team Manager and Doctor (Traveling).
