Fiji’s Powerlifting Squad Gears Up for Tough Oceania Challenge

The Fiji Powerlifting Federation has announced a robust 10-member team to compete in the Oceania Regional Powerlifting Championships 2014, scheduled to take place in Nauru from October 30 to November 2. Federation president Viliame Lagonilakeba confirmed the team’s formation yesterday, which includes six athletes and four officials.

Lagonilakeba noted that participating in the event in Nauru poses a significant challenge, as powerlifting is a vital part of the local culture, with many world champions hailing from the region, solidifying Nauru’s reputation as one of the strongest powerlifting nations globally. He expressed confidence in the preparedness of the Fijian athletes, who are eager to showcase their strength and skills against top competitors from the region.

The athletes representing Fiji include Vivaan Patel in the Men’s sub-junior U83kg category, Vinesh Chand in the Men’s Open U74kg, Faga Varea in the Men’s Open U93kg, Muzammil Ali and Kurt Wise (captain) in the Men’s Open U120kg category.

The official team comprises head coach Eric Jioje (Non-travelling), Ryan Bale (Non-travelling), assistant coach Salacieli Koroi (Travelling), and team manager/doctor Jessa May Banchod (Travelling).
