Fiji’s Power Future: Overcoming Outages with Innovative Solutions

Energizing Solutions for Power Outages in Fiji

Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) is actively pursuing solutions to mitigate power outages triggered by lightning strikes, a recurring issue notably impacting Viti Levu. Recent disruptions caused by severe lightning storms prompted EFL’s newly-appointed CEO, Fatiaki Gibson, to collaborate with Japanese partners to devise reliable engineering strategies aimed at fortifying the electrical grid against these natural occurrences.

Gibson emphasized the necessity of improving power supply consistency, stating, “Going forward, we will attempt to focus on minimizing outages caused by these natural currents. Equally, we will prioritize how quickly we can restore power to our customers in the event of any interruptions.” Despite the potential financial burden of implementing these solutions, the CEO asserts that enhancing the power supply is crucial for national development.

EFL Board Chair Rokoseru Nabalarua underscored the universal challenge of lightning-induced outages, highlighting the urgency for modern technological advancements to decrease both frequency and intensity of electricity disruptions. The commitment to swift action reflects EFL’s dedication to maintaining a reliable power supply for all Fijians.

The proactive initiatives by EFL, including partnerships and the incorporation of innovative technology, signify a positive stride towards creating a more resilient energy infrastructure. As the organization continues to adapt and evolve, it fosters hope for a stable and sustainable future regarding electricity supply in Fiji.

With a relentless focus on improvement, EFL aims to not only resolve current challenges but also position itself for future demands as it prioritizes the welfare of its customers and the economic growth of the nation.
