The Fiji Police Force has officially partnered with the Fiji Ports Corporation Limited (FPCL) to improve security and crime prevention at the country’s major ports. This partnership was established through a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu and FPCL Acting Chief Executive Officer Suresh Prasad at Muaiwalu House in Walu Bay, Suva.
The MOU aims to enhance collaboration between the two organizations by focusing on areas such as crime prevention, intelligence sharing, investigations, prosecution support, and overall security management at several ports, including Suva, Lautoka, Malau, Levuka, Vuda, Wairiki, and Savusavu.
Notably, this agreement emphasizes joint operations to deter illegal activities, enforcement of laws, risk management, and the coordination of training and development initiatives. Both the Fiji Police and FPCL are determined to share resources and expertise effectively, enhancing security at key maritime entries.
Commissioner Tudravu underscored the necessity of strengthening partnerships to tackle emerging threats, while Mr. Prasad highlighted the importance of proactive cooperation for the safety and security of cargo, passengers, and port infrastructure.
This collaboration aligns well with the Fiji Police’s recent efforts in forging strong inter-agency partnerships, as seen in their earlier agreements aimed at enhancing security in the region, such as the MOU with Port Denarau Marina Limited to improve safety measures for tourists and locals at key maritime locations.
As Fiji continues to bolster its maritime security and law enforcement capabilities through these initiatives, the commitment to creating a safer environment reflects hope for enhanced public safety and greater economic confidence for communities reliant on these crucial ports.
