Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, engaged with Pio Smith, the Regional Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), during the High-Level Regional Consultation on Financing for Development in Asia and the Pacific, held in Bangkok.
In the course of their meeting, DPM Prasad expressed gratitude to UNFPA for its assistance in creating Fiji’s inaugural National Population Policy. This policy aims to tackle demographic shifts and harmonize population dynamics with national development objectives, which is anticipated to significantly influence Fiji’s future growth trajectory.
Furthermore, the UNFPA is eager for Fiji’s involvement in the upcoming 58th session of the Commission on Population and Development (CPD) set for April 2025.
This collaboration signifies a proactive approach towards addressing demographic challenges and aligns with global developmental goals, showcasing Fiji’s commitment to sustainable growth.
