The Electoral Commission of Fiji (ECF) convened yesterday to consider the appeal filed by Independent parliamentarian Alvick Maharaj regarding the deregistration of the Fiji First Party. The party was officially deregistered on July 1, 2024.
ECF chairperson Barbara Malimali emphasized the importance of patience from the people of Fiji as the commission deliberates on the appeal. She expressed satisfaction that the process is now in motion, stating, “We look forward to publishing our decision at the conclusion. Until then, we will not be in a position to comment. We trust the public of Fiji will understand this need for discretion and be patient.”
The ECF is addressing the appeal in its quasi-judicial function.
