The Electoral Commission of Fiji (ECF) convened yesterday to review the appeal filed by Independent parliamentarian Alvick Maharaj regarding the deregistration of the Fiji First Party by the Registrar of Political Parties.
The party was officially deregistered on July 1, 2024. ECF chairperson Barbara Malimali urged the people of Fiji to be patient as they work towards a resolution of the appeal.
“We are pleased that the process is now underway,” she stated. “We look forward to publishing our decision at the conclusion. Until then, we will not be in a position to comment. We trust the public of Fiji will understand this need for discretion and be patient.”
The ECF is hearing this appeal in a quasi-judicial capacity.
