The Fijian Elections Office has recently received applications for name reservations from fourteen new political parties as they prepare for the upcoming 2026 General Election. This brings the total number of proposed parties to twenty-one, adding to the seven already registered with the office.
Among the new entrants is Solidarity Fiji, formed by former members of the deregistered FijiFirst party. For a party to gain official registration, it must gather 5,000 voter signatures from across Fiji and submit these with their registration application. Each application will be carefully vetted to assess eligibility for approval.
The already registered political parties include the All Peoples Party, Fiji Labour Party, National Federation Party, Social Democratic Liberal Party, People’s Alliance Party, Unity Fiji, and We Unite Fiji Party. The list of newly proposed political parties consists of:
– Fiji Constitution Conservative Party
– Liberation of Fiji Party
– Hearts with Vision
– Cornerstone Vision Party
– One United Republican (OUR)
– One People’s Party
– Fijians First Party
– Servant of All Party (SOAP)
– Solidarity Fiji
– NextGen Alliance Party
– People First

This notable increase in political engagement reflects an evolving democratic landscape in Fiji, indicating a strong desire among the electorate for diverse representation. The expansion of political choices provides an opportunity for robust discussions around governance and better aligns representation with the aspirations of the populace.
The rise in political activity is a positive indicator of a more dynamic and responsive democratic process in Fiji. The upcoming elections promise not only to enhance competition among parties but also to encourage increased public participation in governance, an essential aspect of a thriving democracy.
