Fiji is advancing its police reform efforts with robust support from Australia, demonstrated through the UPLIFT program launched in April. This initiative aims to enhance the Fiji Police Force’s leadership, operational effectiveness, and public engagement, fostering greater community trust.

Australian Federal Police (AFP) Assistant Commissioner Nigel Ryan praised Fiji’s significant progress under the UPLIFT program, asserting that the AFP will continue to provide support via specialized project staff and liaison teams. Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu expressed gratitude towards Australia, referring to them as true partners in the vital task of modernizing the police force’s systems and public image.

Ryan’s visit will include meetings with the Minister for Policing, Ioane Naivalurua, and tours of various police units, further solidifying the long-term cooperative relationship between the two nations. This partnership is emphasized in previous discussions about tackling security challenges—such as organized crime and cyber threats—through comprehensive leadership training and infrastructure improvements.

The ongoing reforms center on seven key pillars, including governance, integrity, and operational capabilities, aimed at rebuilding public confidence in law enforcement. Notably, this strategic collaboration is expected to significantly enhance the professional standards of the Fiji Police Force by focusing on internal development, community engagement, and accountability.

The commitment of both local leadership and international partners signals a positive trajectory for the Fiji Police Force, with prospects for improved safety and security throughout the region. The UPLIFT program stands as a beacon of hope, indicating a future of strengthened ties between the police and the citizens they serve.
