Crime is evolving, and criminals are becoming more sophisticated, prompting the need for a new police strategy, according to Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua. He spoke about this during the Fiji Police Force’s 150th anniversary parade held in Nasova.
Tikoduadua mentioned that the concept of “Police Reset” might be new to some. He explained that this initiative is not just a strategy; it represents a commitment to transform the operational approach of the Fiji Police Force in response to a rapidly changing world.
He emphasized that crime is constantly evolving and that the nation is witnessing this phenomenon more distinctly than ever. This includes the rise of sophisticated cybercrime, the increasing threat of organized crime, and the ongoing battle against illicit drugs, which have created more complex challenges than before.
To tackle these evolving threats, Tikoduadua stated that adaptation is essential. The Police Reset is focused on providing officers with the necessary skills, tools, and resources to effectively address modern challenges. He stressed the importance of creating a more agile and responsive police force that is accountable to the public and well-integrated within the communities it serves.
“This initiative calls for a rethinking of how we protect and serve,” he noted. Tikoduadua explained that the Reset would involve significant investments in technology, equipment, and personnel. Furthermore, it will prioritize training, professional development, and a renewed emphasis on integrity and service.
He underscored the importance of community policing, stating that genuine safety stems not only from law enforcement but also from fostering trust and collaboration with the communities the police are dedicated to protecting.
