Crime is evolving, and criminals are becoming increasingly sophisticated, prompting the need for a new police strategy, according to Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua.
While addressing officers at the Fiji Police Force’s 150th anniversary parade in Nasova, Tikoduadua introduced the concept of a “Police Reset.” He emphasized that this initiative is more than just a strategy; it represents a commitment to transforming the operations of the Fiji Police Force in an ever-changing environment.
Tikoduadua highlighted that crime continuously evolves, with the rise of advanced cybercrime, organized crime, and drug-related issues presenting unprecedented challenges. He stressed the importance of adaptation to effectively address these threats.
The Police Reset aims to equip officers with the necessary skills, tools, and resources to confront modern criminal threats. The goal is to develop a more agile and responsive police force that is accountable to the public and closely connected to the communities it serves.
“This is not about continuing with the status quo,” Tikoduadua noted. “It involves reevaluating our approach to protection and service.”
He stated that implementing the Reset would necessitate investments in technology, equipment, and personnel. A focus on training, professional development, and upholding integrity will be pivotal to this transformation.
Furthermore, Tikoduadua mentioned the importance of community policing, asserting that true safety arises not just from law enforcement but also from fostering trust and cooperation with the citizens the police are sworn to protect.
