Fiji’s Police Force on the Hunt for a New Chief

The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) will soon announce the vacancy for the position of Commissioner of Police. Pio Tikoduadua, the Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, stated that the commission is actively working to appoint a new leader for the Fiji Police Force.

“The COC is preparing to advertise the position shortly. We hope many applicants will come forward, allowing us to appoint a new commissioner promptly,” Tikoduadua remarked.

This vacancy was created when Sitiveni Qiliho, who had been suspended since January 27, resigned earlier this month while serving a two-year prison sentence. Consequently, the COC can now move forward with the recruitment process. Currently, the role is being filled by Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew.

The COC functions as an advisory body, providing guidance to the President of Fiji concerning the appointment of significant public positions, such as the Commissioner of Police.

The commission consists of six members, including the Prime Minister as the chairperson, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Attorney-General. Additionally, two members are appointed by the Prime Minister, and one member is selected by the Opposition Leader.
