Fiji’s police force is currently undergoing training in public order management provided by the Australian Federal Police (AFP). This initiative follows the donation of essential equipment for Public Order Management (POM) made by the AFP in October. The Fiji Police Force stated that this POM equipment will not only aid the Police Mobile Force in specialized operations but is also expected to enhance Fiji’s capability to deliver training in this critical area across the region.
This training is part of a broader collaboration highlighted in the Solesolevaki Memorandum of Understanding, signed in October 2022, which aims to strengthen the partnership between the AFP and Fiji Police Force in tackling security challenges affecting both countries and the wider Pacific region.
This cooperation reflects a significant commitment to improving public safety and order in Fiji and the Pacific, promoting a spirit of unity and support among partner nations in response to security vulnerabilities.
In a rapidly changing world, initiatives like these are essential in fostering regional stability and can lead to increased safety and trust within communities. It is hoped that the new skills and equipment acquired through this training will greatly benefit both the police force and the residents of Fiji.
