Fiji’s Police Commissioner Resigns Amid Controversy

Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho, the suspended Commissioner of Police, has officially resigned. This announcement was made by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who is also the chair of the Constitutional Offices Commission. Rabuka stated that Qiliho submitted his resignation last week. The Constitutional Offices Commission is scheduled to convene later this week. Qiliho was suspended in 2023 by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere based on recommendations from the Prime Minister due to allegations of misconduct. He is currently serving a two-year prison sentence for abuse of office. Additionally, it has been confirmed that Qiliho sought legal advice from his lawyers prior to his resignation.
