Fiji’s Police Chief Resigns Amid Controversy

Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho, the suspended Commissioner of Police, has officially resigned. This information was confirmed by Prime Minister and Chair of the Constitutional Offices Commission, Sitiveni Rabuka, who noted that Qiliho submitted his resignation last week. The Constitutional Offices Commission is scheduled to convene later this week.

Qiliho was suspended in 2023 by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, following recommendations from the Prime Minister, due to allegations of misconduct. He is currently serving a two-year prison sentence for abuse of office. Additionally, it has been reported that Qiliho sought legal advice from his attorneys regarding his resignation.
