Fiji’s PM Vows Transparency Amid Investigation Controversy

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced that the cabinet will present a document concerning the investigation or commission of inquiry regarding allegations made by former Deputy Commissioner of FICAC, Francis Puleiwai.

In a press briefing, Rabuka explained that this document outlines the ‘Terms of Reference’ and objectives for the commission’s members for cabinet review. He emphasized that the situation pertains to the credibility of the government and its institutions, which requires immediate attention.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that while the past cannot be changed, the government is committed to preventing similar issues from occurring in the future. He stated, “If anyone has violated the law, they will be held accountable.”

When asked about claims by Puleiwai regarding being targeted by government agents, Rabuka denied any involvement from his administration. He encouraged Puleiwai to contact the police if she feels threatened while in Fiji and remarked that she is welcome to return to the country.

Rabuka also noted that a report concerning Puleiwai was retracted by ABC due to questions surrounding the veracity of her claims. He reassured the people of Fiji that their safety is a priority.
