Fiji’s PM Visit Sparks Controversy Over Media Racism

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed appreciation to the New Zealand Government for its excellent coordination of the arrangements surrounding Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s visit. This comes after some media members employed racist stereotypes concerning images of two New Zealanders serving as part of the Prime Minister’s security detail. The Fiji High Commission in New Zealand clarified that these individuals were part of a larger team representing diverse segments of New Zealand society. They expressed gratitude for the professionalism, openness, and meticulousness displayed by the security personnel. The High Commission confirmed that all members of the New Zealand security detail were supplied by the New Zealand Government and stated that the Prime Minister’s visit was carried out smoothly, despite some adjustments to the itinerary.
