Fiji’s PM Sets Sights on Strengthening Ties with China

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will embark on a ten-day trip to China from August 12 to 21, following an invitation from Premier Li Qiang of the State Council.

This announcement was made by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, who provided details about the visit when asked about China’s expectations. Mao indicated that the two leaders would engage in extensive discussions on China-Fiji relations and other significant topics of mutual concern during the trip.

Mao highlighted that China has hosted several leaders from Pacific island nations this year, and Rabuka’s visit underscores the strong ties between China and the South Pacific region. He expressed that through this engagement, China aims to elevate their comprehensive strategic partnership, which focuses on mutual respect and shared development. The goal is to collaborate with Fiji on building a closer community with a common future for China and the Pacific Island countries.

Notably, Fiji was the first Pacific island nation to establish diplomatic relations with China 49 years ago.
