Fiji’s PM Set to Strengthen Ties on Historic China Visit

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is set to embark on a 10-day official trip to China beginning Monday. This will mark his inaugural visit to the country since assuming office in December 2022.

According to a statement from Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning, leaders from both nations will engage in comprehensive discussions on significant mutual concerns during this visit.

This year, China has already hosted several leaders from Pacific Island nations, and Rabuka’s visit underscores the strong relationship between China and the South Pacific region. Mao expressed China’s intent to elevate the comprehensive strategic partnership with Fiji and collaborate to foster an even closer community with shared futures between China and Pacific Island countries.

Fiji holds the distinction of being the first Pacific Island nation to establish diplomatic relations with China.
