Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced that his upcoming attendance at the United Nations General Assembly will coincide with the adoption of the ‘Ocean for Peace’ policy by the Pacific Islands Forum. This proposal was introduced during the 53rd Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting held in Tonga last month.
During the launch of Fiji’s Foreign Policy White Paper, Rabuka mentioned that he intends to present the ‘Oceans for Peace’ policy at the UNGA meeting, emphasizing its significance as a framework to be brought back to New York. Although the policy was approved during the recent leaders’ meeting in Tonga, it is anticipated to be officially ratified in Honiara, Solomon Islands, next year.
The Prime Minister also revealed that he has requested His Excellency President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere to represent him as the Leader of Government at the 79th United Nations General Assembly taking place in New York this week. Additionally, Rabuka stated that the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat is collaborating with the Fijian government to develop a strategy aimed at promoting peace and security among Pacific nations.
