Fiji’s PM Heads to China: What’s on the Agenda?

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is set to undertake an official visit to China starting Monday. This visit has been confirmed by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the visit, leaders from both countries will engage in detailed discussions regarding the relationship between China and Fiji, as well as other significant mutual interests. China aims to enhance its comprehensive strategic partnership with Fiji, promoting mutual respect and shared development, while also working towards creating a closer bond between China and Pacific Island nations.

Fiji holds the distinction of being the first Pacific Island nation to form diplomatic relations with China. Over the past 49 years, the relationship has shown consistent progress, resulting in effective exchanges and cooperation across various sectors that have benefited both nations.

The visit comes at the invitation of China’s Premier, Li Qiang.
