Fiji’s Phone Surplus: What It Means for the Future

Fiji has surpassed its total population with the number of mobile phones in the country, which stood at 1.31 million last year, according to data from telecommunications firms.

Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru noted that this figure suggests that many individuals own multiple devices, as the population has not yet reached one million.

He pointed out that even those living below the poverty line have access to mobile phones, emphasizing that young people make up the largest group of users and developers influencing global digital trends.

“It is crucial to understand that youths are a vital demographic in utilizing technology’s transformative power to tackle global challenges,” he said.

Saukuru highlighted the significant opportunity for young people to use digital resources for sustainable development, paving the way for a promising future for future generations.
