Fiji’s peacekeeping forces stationed in the Golan Heights as part of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force and the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization are reported to be safe amid recent regional tensions. Defense Minister Pio Tikoduadua has reassured the public that all Fijian troops are accounted for and that security measures are robust.

On December 8, the Israeli Defence Forces launched operations in the demilitarized zone targeting rebel activities. While UN positions were not specifically attacked, there are efforts underway to recover equipment that was temporarily disrupted due to rebel incursions. In response to the situation, the IDF is increasing security in the area, and local communities continue to support peacekeepers to sustain stability.

Additionally, a Fijian officer has safely returned to Camp Faour following an evacuation from Damascus. Although the environment in the operational area remains tense, there is currently no direct threat to Fijian peacekeepers. The Defense Ministry is closely monitoring developments and has praised the professionalism of the troops involved.

This situation underscores the crucial role that peacekeepers play in maintaining stability in conflict regions. The dedication of Fijian troops serves as a reminder of their commitment to peace and security, fostering hope for continued calm in a challenging context.
