Fiji’s peacekeepers stationed in the Golan Heights under the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force and the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization are currently safe amid escalating tensions in the region. Defence Minister Pio Tikoduadua assured the nation that all Fijian troops are accounted for and that robust security measures are in effect.

On December 8, the Israeli Defence Forces undertook operations in the demilitarized zone to counteract rebel activities. While UN positions were not directly attacked, steps are being taken to recover equipment that was impacted by rebel infiltration. The IDF is enhancing security in the area, and local communities are actively collaborating with peacekeepers to preserve stability.

Additionally, a Fijian officer who had been evacuated from Damascus has safely returned to Camp Faour. Although the operational area remains tense, officials maintain that there is no immediate threat to the safety of Fijian peacekeepers. The Defence Ministry continues to monitor the evolving situation and praised the professionalism of the troops.

This situation underscores the importance of international peacekeeping efforts, and the commitment shown by the Fijian troops reflects a strong dedication to their vital role in maintaining regional stability. It is encouraging to see local communities engage positively with peacekeepers, highlighting the collaborative effort required for peace in such challenging circumstances.
