The Director General of the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO), Elizabeth Dibble, has expressed her appreciation for the contributions of Fijian soldiers deployed under the MFO banner. During a recent meeting with Major General Jone Kalouniwai, the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), at the RFMF Strategic Headquarters, she praised the Fijian contingents for their professionalism and excellence in peacekeeping roles.

Dibble highlighted Fiji’s longstanding commitment to peace since 1982, when it became one of the initial contributors to the MFO, aimed at overseeing the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel. She has observed the consistent dedication of Fijian forces, underscoring their significant role in fostering stability in the Middle East.

This acknowledgment from Dibble is part of a broader context reflecting Fiji’s active participation in international peacekeeping efforts. As illustrated in a similar report, the Fijian Defence Minister, Pio Tikoduadua, has also assured that Fijian personnel serving with other UN-related missions, such as the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), remain well-prepared and unaffected by regional tensions, maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols.

Given Fiji’s history of military contributions to global peacekeeping, the ongoing evaluations and support for its peacekeepers signify a robust commitment to international security initiatives. The recognition from figures such as Dibble and Tikoduadua highlights the reliability and importance of the RFMF on the global stage, offering a hopeful outlook for continued cooperation in peacekeeping operations.

Overall, Fiji’s proactive approach towards enhancing safety and effectiveness in peacekeeping missions not only solidifies its international reputation but also serves as a positive example of how smaller nations contribute to global security efforts, fostering collaborative relationships in maintaining peace.
