Significant advancements have been observed in the national effort towards fostering partnerships in nation building. This sentiment was expressed by Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Viliame Gavoka at the conclusion of the two-day Fiji Tourism Convention 2024, which wrapped up on Friday.
Minister Gavoka expressed optimism regarding the positive momentum developing within the government. “Since our last conference, our Prime Minister has introduced the Fiji National Sustainable Tourism Framework 2024-2034,” he stated. This framework serves as a detailed plan that illustrates the vision for a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable tourism sector. Gavoka emphasized that it represents not only a ten-year strategy but also a commitment to the people, environment, and partners involved in the tourism industry, assuring a continued focus on sustainable practices.
He stressed the importance of public-private partnerships in attaining these goals. “Recently, we launched our 2025-2029 National Development Plan alongside Vision 2050. This past weekend, we inaugurated the $200 million Na Vualiku Project and opened our office in Savusavu,” he noted. Gavoka also promised the establishment of two platforms—one connecting the private sector and another for civil society organizations—to facilitate collective action.
He reiterated that Fiji’s success hinges on collaboration: “Public-private partnerships are critical for our progress, and we are dedicated to working closely with you to shape our future. The government’s role is to create an enabling environment, but it is the partnership with the private sector that will drive us forward.”
The Fiji Tourism Convention 2024 concluded just in time to align with the celebrations of World Tourism Day.
