Fiji’s Path to Healing: PM Rabuka Advocates for Forgiveness and Unity

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has stated that the recent actions taken by the Mercy Commission, including the pardons granted to George Speight and Shane Stevens, were executed following the proper procedures and without any external influence.

Rabuka emphasized that these decisions are part of Fiji’s broader commitment to reconciliation and healing. He noted that as the nation strives for unity and progress, it is essential to reflect on its history and collaborate to build a brighter future.

He remarked, “Those of us who contributed to our nation’s instability must take responsibility for the delays in major development progress.”

The Prime Minister also highlighted the significance of these pardons, describing them as a blessing for individuals who have completed their prison sentences, allowing them to reintegrate into society and contribute positively.

“By embracing forgiveness, truth, and reconciliation, we can move forward together, creating a stronger and more united Fiji,” he added.

Rabuka is calling on all Fijians to support the Coalition Government’s initiatives focused on truth and reconciliation, which he believes are crucial for the country’s growth and prosperity.
