Fiji’s Path to Democracy: A Promised Revival?

The Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Professor Biman Prasad, stated that the current government has fulfilled its promise to restore freedom to the people of Fiji by ending the oppressive rule of two leaders.

Addressing the National Federation Party Annual Convention, Professor Prasad remarked that the government is focused on rebuilding a democratic and accountable system in Fiji. He emphasized that the National Federation Party has adhered to its commitment to eliminate fear and intimidation while also pledging to engage in listening and consulting with citizens.

He urged party members to support these efforts and continue backing the government in its mission to improve Fiji.

“We are Fiji’s oldest political party, having endured through various challenges while other parties, even the strongest ones, have disappeared,” he noted.

“Our survival stems from our shared beliefs. We are united by a love for Fiji and a desire to contribute to its progress. We uphold principles of unity and peace and aim to provide assistance to the most disadvantaged members of our society to enhance their lives. For decades, we have worked towards this moment when we can lead with integrity and compassion as our nation becomes stronger, better, and more resilient.”

Professor Prasad concluded by affirming their commitment to building a better Fiji, striving for a more equal and just society.
