The Fijian Parliament officially adopted its sitting calendar for 2025 today, as announced by Government Leader Ro Filipe Tuisawau. This calendar aims to provide a framework for the six standing committees to resume work on outstanding annual reports and address any legislative proposals that may emerge.

Tuisawau emphasized the importance of collaboration among parliamentarians, highlighting that these committees serve as vital conduits between Parliament and the public.

The official opening of Parliament will take place on February 24, 2025, led by His Excellency the President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu. Following the opening, there will be a debate over the President’s address in the first week of March, from the 3rd to the 7th. Additional sessions are scheduled for late April to early May, early June, and the announcement of the 2025/26 National Budget is set for June 27. A week dedicated to debating the budget will follow from July 7 to 11.

Further sessions throughout the year include discussions in August, September to October, November, and concluding with a prorogation of the session on December 8.

This structured sitting calendar reflects a commitment to transparency and accountability in government operations, while providing a clear timeline for legislative processes that can positively affect the citizens of Fiji. Through these efforts, the Parliament aims to enhance communication and engagement with the public, ultimately fostering a more participatory governance environment.
