The Fijian Parliament has officially approved the sitting calendar for 2025. Government Leader Ro Filipe Tuisawau highlighted that the schedule will allow all six standing committees to continue their essential work on pending annual reports and any forthcoming bills.
Tuisawau emphasized the importance of collaboration among Parliament members, noting that these committees serve as vital links between the Parliament and the public. The parliamentary session is scheduled to commence with an address from His Excellency the President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, on February 24. His speech will be the focus of debate during the opening week, which runs from March 3 to March 7.
Subsequent sittings will take place from April 28 to May 2 and from June 2 to June 6. The 2025/26 National Budget is set to be unveiled on June 27, followed by a week-long discussion from July 7 to July 11. Additional sittings are planned for August 4-8, September 29 to October 3, November 3 to 7, and December 1 to 5, with the session expected to wrap up on December 8.
This structured calendar not only facilitates efficient legislative processes but also underscores the commitment of the Fijian government to engage with the public throughout the parliament’s activities. With such timelines in place, there is an optimistic outlook for legislative advancements and community involvement as the year unfolds.
