The election for the new Speaker of Parliament is scheduled for December 2, 2024. This follows the official vacancy of the position on November 12, after Tui Cakau, the current Speaker, is sworn in as the new President of Fiji. Until November 11, Ratu Naiqama will continue to fulfill the responsibilities of the Speaker. During the Parliament sitting on December 2, both Government and Opposition members will nominate candidates for the role, and a vote will subsequently be held.

This transition marks a significant moment in Fijian politics, illustrating a smooth leadership change within the government framework. It’s an opportunity for the Parliament to come together and ensure that the Speaker’s role is filled with a candidate who can effectively oversee parliamentary proceedings.
