Fijians have been found to be spending an astonishing amount of time on adult websites, according to a recent Parliament session. Over a span of three months, the data usage for accessing pornographic sites reached a staggering 626.13 terabytes, which is equivalent to reading approximately 100 million books within the same timeframe.
In sports, the national schoolboy rugby team achieved a notable victory against the Australian schoolboys at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, marking a historic moment for the sport in the country.
In other news, former Secretary-General of Parliament, Mary Chapman, criticized the current state of Parliamentary conduct, referring to it as a “Banana Parliament.” This comment was in response to remarks made by the Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry as well as the Opposition member Parveen Kumar. Chapman lamented the decline in decorum, noting that such personal attacks and disrespectful language were not commonplace during her tenure.
She emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of Parliament and called for a return to respectful discourse. Chapman, drawing on her extensive experience, urged that Parliament should focus on serious governance and public service rather than the chaotic atmosphere often perceived as normal. She warned that continued degeneracy in political conduct risks undermining the foundation of democratic governance, stating, “Somebody has to put their foot down unless you want this to be a real Banana Parliament.”
