Women and their allies came together yesterday at Ratu Sukuna Park for a vibrant celebration of International Women’s Day, under the theme “If Women Stop, the World Stops.” Organized by the Fiji Women’s Rights Movement, the event aimed to highlight the achievements of women while advocating for their human rights.
The free public concert drew a large crowd of community members eager to enjoy performances from local artists. Talented musicians such as Laisa Vulakoro, Georgina Ledua, and Milika Roro captivated the audience with their lively acts throughout the day.
In addition to the musical entertainment, several speakers addressed the attendees, focusing on critical issues related to women’s rights and the urgent need for gender equality. This gathering was part of broader activities commemorating International Women’s Day, which takes place every year on March 8. The day serves to acknowledge women’s substantial contributions across various spheres—social, economic, cultural, and political—while continuing to promote the necessity for gender equality.
The event was a testament to the strength and resilience of women, showcasing their significant role in society, and leaving a hopeful outlook for future advancements in women’s rights.
