Fiji’s outsourcing sector is primed for a prosperous future, with continued backing, inventive strategies and a commitment to inclusivity placing it at the forefront of the global outsourcing market.
Sagufta Janif, executive director of Outsourcing Fiji, revealed that Fiji’s resilience and growth in the outsourcing industry, especially during tough times like the pandemic, has propelled it to be a sought-after destination for risk diversification outsourcing.
Janif participated in the 9th Global Trade Aid for Review held in Geneva, Switzerland, where she shared the progress and innovation Fiji has achieved in the outsourcing sector. In a session named ‘Voices of the Indo-Pacific – A deep dive into the Market Development Facility in Timor-Leste and Fiji,’ she discussed the rapid growth of Fiji’s outsourcing sector amid the Covid pandemic.
“The sector’s growth has created numerous job opportunities and established a sustainable economic ecosystem in Fiji,” Janif said.
She also gave insights into Fiji’s digital trade ecosystem, addressed the challenges unique to Pacific nations, and noted promising prospects such as the impending Google link that will boost Fiji’s global connectivity.
Janif highlighted that the outsourcing industry in Fiji employs around 70% women, emphasizing the importance of providing women with equal opportunities in a sector that predominantly operates online. The forthcoming Google link will significantly enhance connectivity, thus empowering more women to participate in digital trade, she added.
The 9th Global Trade Aid for Review, organized by the World Trade Organization (WTO), convened key stakeholders from the Indo-Pacific region to deliberate on best practices, challenges, and innovative solutions in trade and development.
Janif praised the collaborative efforts of their government and international partners, like the Australian government’s Market Development Facility, in fostering the growth of the outsourcing industry.
