Olympic silver medalist Ponipate Loganimasi is set to make his full debut for the FIJI Water Flying Fijians in their upcoming match against Scotland as part of their European tour on Sunday. Loganimasi previously showcased his talent by coming off the bench to score two tries in Fiji’s victory over Japan during the Pacific Nations Cup, and he will start on the left wing for this important matchup.

Alongside Loganimasi, two players from the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, Kemueli Valetini and Waqa Nalaga, are poised to potentially make their debuts as they have been named among the reserves.

Head coach Mick Byrne has assembled a robust starting lineup featuring Haereiti Hetet, Captain Tevita Ikanivere, and Samuela Tawake in the front row. Isoa Nasilasila and Ratu Leone Rotuisolia will serve as the locks, while Ratu Meli Derenalagi and Kitione Salawa have been assigned as the blindside and openside flankers, respectively. Elia Canakaivata will fill the Number 8 role.

The fly-half partnership will be managed by Frank Lomani and Caleb Muntz, with Loganimasi and Vuate Karawalevu bringing their speed to the wings. In midfield, Inia Tabuavou and Apisalome Vota will play together, while Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula, a promising young talent, will take the position of fullback.

The reserves include Mesulame Dolokoto, Livai Natave, Jone Koroiduadua, Mesake Vocevoce, Vilive Miramira, and Simi Kuruvoli, alongside Nalaga and Valetini. The match is set to take place at Murrayfield, kickstarting at 5:40 AM on Sunday.

This debut marks not only a significant moment for Loganimasi but also for the Flying Fijians as they look to build momentum on their European tour. The inclusion of young players in the squad also resonates with a focus on nurturing talent for the future of Fijian rugby, ensuring that the sport in the nation continues to thrive and evolve.
