Olympic silver medalist Ponipate Loganimasi is set to make his full debut with the FIJI Water Flying Fijians in their opening match against Scotland this Sunday as part of their European tour. Loganimasi, who previously showcased his talent by scoring two tries in Fiji’s victory over Japan in the Pacific Nations Cup, will take to the field as a left winger.
Joining Loganimasi in the introduction of fresh talent are Kemueli Valetini and Waqa Nalaga from the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, both of whom have been placed on the reserves list. Head coach Mick Byrne has assembled a formidable starting lineup, featuring Haereiti Hetet, Captain Tevita Ikanivere, and Samuela Tawake in the front row.
The lock positions will be held by Isoa Nasilasila and Ratu Leone Rotuisolia, while Ratu Meli Derenalagi and Kitione Salawa will operate as blindside and openside flankers, respectively. Elia Canakaivata will take charge at Number 8.
The team’s match strategy will be coordinated by Frank Lomani and Caleb Muntz in the halfback positions, with Loganimasi and Vuate Karawalevu exploiting their speed on the wings. The midfield pairing will consist of Inia Tabuavou and Apisalome Vota, and young talent Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula will be positioned at fullback.
Supporting the team from the bench will be Mesulame Dolokoto, Livai Natave, Jone Koroiduadua, Mesake Vocevoce, Vilive Miramira, and Simi Kuruvoli alongside Nalaga and Valetini.
The highly anticipated match will take place at Murrayfield, kicking off at 5:40 AM on Sunday. This opening game not only marks a significant opportunity for Fiji to showcase its rugby prowess but also sets the stage for new talents to shine on an international platform.
In conclusion, fans can look forward to an exciting display of skill and determination from both seasoned players and newcomers, as the Flying Fijians aim to make a strong statement in their European tour. The journey ahead promises to be filled with potential and hope as the team rallies together to achieve success.
