Fiji Men’s 7s captain Jerry Tuwai shared that the standards set by both the men’s and women’s teams during the 2024 Paris Olympics can inspire the nation and its youth who aspire to represent Fiji. This statement was made at a welcoming ceremony held on August 4, 2024, organized by the Fiji Rugby Union at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi, attended by family and loved ones.
Tuwai acknowledged that while the outcome of the tournament might not have met everyone’s expectations, the team is capable of bouncing back. He expressed gratitude towards God for their protection and guidance throughout their preparation for the Paris campaign and for their safe return.
He thanked the coaches, management, and teammates for their efforts in representing the country on the global stage of the Olympic Games, along with appreciation for family support. Tuwai also offered an apology for not bringing home the hoped-for medal color, acknowledging the nation’s high expectations.
The Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, commended the performances of both the Fiji 7s and Fijiana 7s teams, recognizing the contributions of the coaching and management staff. He highlighted the crucial role of leadership in the teams’ successes and expressed gratitude towards Osea Kolonisau and his family for their dedication.
