Fiji’s Next Police Chief: Who Will Step Up?

The Constitutional Offices Commission in Fiji is set to convene on Monday to deliberate on the appointment of a new Police Commissioner. Inia Seruiratu, the Leader of the Opposition, has expressed eagerness to engage in discussions regarding this significant decision, alongside other matters such as appointing a new chairperson for the Electoral Commission.

The COC Secretariat revealed that an independent panel has been tasked with evaluating 29 applications for the commissioner role. Among the candidates expressing interest in the position are former Assistant Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu, the acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew, and Unaisi Vuniwaqa, who is currently an assistant secretary general at the United Nations.
