Peter Wise, the former permanent secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, has been nominated to be Fiji’s next Ambassador to Japan, as confirmed by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. Wise is set to take over from Filimone Waqabaca, who will return to Fiji to lead the Fiji Development Bank (FDB).
Wise resigned from his position as permanent secretary on September 25, citing personal reasons. However, Prime Minister Rabuka later revealed that a sexual harassment allegation against Wise had been brought to their office, which was subsequently referred to the Public Service Commission (PSC). Rabuka noted that Wise was made aware of the accusation before his decision to resign.
Since January 2023, Wise had been serving as the permanent secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister and has held similar positions in previous governments.
