As Term 2 of the 2025 academic year begins in Fiji, the Fiji Teachers Union (FTU) is encouraging students and educators to embrace this new term with a spirit of determination, resilience, and collaboration. In a statement, FTU General Secretary Muniappa Goundar emphasized the importance of focusing not just on academic success, but also on personal growth, character development, and fostering respectful relationships within school communities.

“This new term is an opportunity to build upon what has been established in Term 1, inviting everyone to embrace resilience and excellence,” Goundar said, urging students to maintain a positive attitude towards learning and challenges. He highlighted that learning should extend beyond exams, advocating for kindness, respect for peers and teachers, and creating safe and supportive classroom environments.

In parallel, Education Minister Aseri Radrodro reiterated the significance of this term for comprehensive syllabus coverage and preparation for external examinations, particularly for Year 12 and Year 13 students. He encouraged students to actively engage in their studies, indicating that their efforts now will shape their future successes. The collaborative sentiments echoed by Radrodro align with previous calls for the importance of parental involvement in fostering a nurturing academic environment.

Additionally, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has also urged students to approach this term with determination and discipline, reinforcing that education is a powerful tool for shaping a better future for Fiji. His optimistic outlook for the educational landscape underscores the unified commitment among leaders, educators, and families to work together for improved academic outcomes.

This collective effort, emphasizing the need for strong partnerships between students, teachers, and parents, offers hope for a more enriching and supportive educational journey in Fiji. The recent calls for genuine unity and collaboration reflect an optimistic anticipation for what lies ahead in the academic year.
